Spanish Classroom Door Decorations

This year I was trying to think of some new way of decorating the door to my classroom. I came up with the idea of having the front of the door having the word 'Hola' written on a hand and the back of the door saying 'Adiós' on a different hand. Students see the word 'Hola' as they walk in the classroom and the word 'Adiós' as they leave.

I like to leave space at the top that is not high enough for any student to look over, but for teachers to be able to look in if needed.

I also decided to decorate the door with hands made by my students. Starting with an idea I found in the Sonrisas Spanish 1 Curriculum, I had students in grades 2-3 make hands on popsicle sticks that showed the many ways of saying 'hello' in Spanish.
First students trace their hands. Then students write the many ways of saying hello in Spanish. Finally, they cut out the hands and add sticks.

Students in grades Pre K - 1 have more difficulty with the scissors so they created mittens that had 'Hola' and 'Adiós' already written on them.
'Hola' and 'Adiós' mittens
To create the mittens, I decided which grades would be able to cut that straight line (1st) and which grades could not (Pre K and K.) For those grades that could not I cut the hand out. All grades then colored their hands completely. I then stapled the sides to create mittens. Here is the template I used when creating the 'Hola' and 'Adiós' mittens:

This is a great way to decorate your classroom door to include students work into a permanent display.
