Recycle English Books for Spanish Class

In previous post I mentioned changing books to focus on one word. In the book "Mi Hermano" by Anthony Browne, I focused on the word sensacional. Wherever there was a synonym in the book for sensacional (i.e. exceptional, fabuloso, etc.) I cut out a piece of paper with the word sensacional and taped it in the book. This was meant to repeat the target word several times.

I applied this idea this week in a new way to Where's Waldo Books. "Where's Waldo" is a great center activitiy. Students can sit in pairs reading the book. Each student takes turns finding Waldo on the page. One student says "Dónde está Wally" when the second student finds him, they can then say "aquí está." On the next page the students would switch roles.
Take old English books...

...and change the titles, or even text to use in Spanish class

This method could easily be applied to I Spy books as well.

The reason I decided to make these centers is because someone donated "Where's Waldo" books to my classroom. I decided to change the title just by printing out a copy of the cover of "Where's Waldo" in Spanish (you also could order the version in Spanish.)

Combining these methods you can take used children's books that are in English and make your own Spanish library.
