Technology Tuesday: Eric Carle’s My Very First App

I usually reserve my blog posts for lesson I have used in my classroom. However, I read an article today that inspired me to share some technology resources for use in a Spanish classroom.

In the newspaper eSchool News I read the following article:

This article got me thinking of other ways to incorporate technology in the classroom. I have decided to dedicate Tuesdays to technology use in the classroom. I will feature a new app, website, or other online tool that would be useful in teaching an early elementary language student.

This week I would like to focus on:

Eric Carle’s My Very First App

I love Eric Carle stories because they translate well into other languages. This app (if you're not sure what an app is click here) definitely lives up to the Eric Carle name.  This app lets you interact with his stories in 6 different languages (Japanese, German, Dutch, Spanish, French, and British English!) There are three levels of game play, appropriate for different age groups, in which children can match images and concepts, as well as tap images to hear related sounds. This is perfect for students learning any new language. I love this app because I could easily give a couple of kids computers to work on this app while I work with a small group. I would know that they were working productively yet independently with language.

Here is a great demo video that introduces the app:
