Parachute Game in Spanish: Paracaídas

In thinking of ways to get other teachers in our school to incorporate Spanish words into their lessons. I started with the fitness teacher, because his class inherently will incorporate kinethetics.

He plays many different versions of the parachute game. I asked him to incorporate the words 'arriba,' 'abajo' and all the colors (in Spanish) that are found on the parachute. Here is a fun game to play with a parachute:

Rules
Each player holds the edge of the parachute at a certain color. The parachute is pulled taut outwards. When the teacher called out the word 'arriba' the parachute was lifted up and vice versa for 'abajo.' Sometimes when the parachute was lifted up the teacher would call out a color like 'azul.'  All players who are holding the parachute on an 'azul' edge change places under the parachute. Several colors can also be called out at once.

Additional Resources
After the success of this lesson I looked up more ideas and found this video of toddlers playing the parachute game in Spanish:

I also found a great list of other games to play in Spanish with the parachute on a resource from West Sussex Primary MFL Conference in 2005.

Fun for Spanish Teachers has a great song that would also be really fun to use with a parachute called La Danza del Paracaidas.
